Importance of Nursing Profession
The profession of NURSE is very important as it is highly demanded in India as well as in foreign countries because Nursing is based on values of earning and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self-care, Understanding of human behavior among its practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals & groups. The professional nurse will be one who recognizes and understands the fundamental needs of a person, sick or well and who knows how these needs can best be met. The Nursing profession exists in response to the need of society and holds ideals related to human health throughout the life span. Nursing includes the promotion of health prevention of illness, and care of ill, disabled and dying people.
Nursing Profession is defined as, 'a vocation requiring advanced training and usually involving mental rather than manual work as teaching, engineering, medicine, law etc. The services offered by a profession are based on specialized knowledge and skills that have been developed in scientific and learned manner as direct service, goal directed and adaptable to the needs the individual, family and community during health and illness. The unique function of the nurse that is to assist the individual sick or well in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that he/she would perform unaided if he/she had the necessary strength, will or knowledge.
Therefore, the primary responsibility of the nurses to help the individual in his daily pattern of living or with those activities that he/she ordinarily performs without assistance. In other word she is the consciousness of the unconscious the leg of the amputee the eyes of the blind the means of locomotion for the paralyzed, the mouth piece of the dumb the ears of the deaf and the love life to the desperation.
